Cholera is an infectious disease. It is called cholera in English. Cholera is caused by the bacteria called Vibrio cholera. This is not normal diarrhea but a destructive type. This disease is more common during the rainy season and summer. Lack of sanitation and clean drinking water increases its risk.
Cholera can be identified by examining stool. Cholera is a disease that was discovered 200 years ago. So far, it has caused an epidemic 7 times worldwide. Regarding Nepal, cholera is seen from time to time in different parts of the country. However, on a larger scale, it was seen in Jajarkot district in 2009. Where cholera was found in about 30 thousand people. Out of which 500 people lost their lives. Then in Rautahat district in 2014, more than 600 people became cholera patients.
Current Update Data Regarding Haija Cholera Patients in All Over Nepal
The number of cholera infected in the country has reached 25. According to the latest bulletin published by the Department of Epidemiology and Disease Control (EDCD) under the Department of Health Services, the number of infected people has reached 25 across the country.
The infection has been confirmed in two people in the last 24 hours. So far, 16 cholera cases have been reported in Lalitpur’s Godavari municipality, eight in Kathmandu’s Tokha municipality and one in Kailali’s Dhangadhi sub-metropolitan municipality, according to EDCD.
How is Haija Cholera disease?
Cholera is caused by eating food or water contaminated with bacteria called Vibrio cholerae. This bacteria is often found in dirty water sources, raw fruits, vegetables, etc. Therefore, water should be purified and drunk only, fruits should be washed properly and food should be cooked only.
The toxin produced by this bacteria affects the small intestine and causes cholera. After entering the human body, this bacteria takes one to two days to develop. If not treated on time, cholera can be serious and in some cases even fatal.
Symptoms of Haija Cholera Disease
- Diarrhea.
- Nausea, vomiting.
- Decreasing the amount of water in the body.
- Fatigue.
- Dry mouth.
- Decreased urination.
- Body relaxation.
How to avoid Haija Cholera disease?
- Wash your hands frequently with soapy water.
- Eat only well-cooked food.
- Eat only fresh food. Do not eat stale, rotten food.
- Keeping food safe from garbage.
- Do not eat vegetables and fruits raw, wash well and eat only cooked.
- Drinking water only after boiling it or using purification method.
- Keeping clean around the house. Dispose of waste material properly.
- If you have diarrhea, make a rehydration solution and eat it.
- If a breastfeeding baby has diarrhea, breastfeed more often.
- If you have complicated symptoms such as high fever, blood in the direction, diarrhea more than five times a day, you should go to a health institution immediately.
Treatment method of Haija Cholera:-
Rehydration – if you mix water with boiled lukewarm water and eat it, its symptoms will be reduced. Severe patients whose body water content is low. The doctor gives them intravenous water.
Antibiotics – To reduce the effects of severe symptoms, the doctor may prescribe some antibiotics. (There is now resistance development in some antibiotic medicines. That is because bacteria have developed resistance against antibiotics, the medicine does not work. Therefore, medicine should be taken only according to the doctor’s advice.)
